Belarusian Milkavita raises export to China by 7 times

GOMEL, 13 August (BelTA) – In January-July 2019 the Belarusian dairy company Milkavita increased export to China by seven times in comparison with January-July 2018, BelTA learned from Head of the company’s Sales Department Marina Askerko.

Since the beginning of the year Milkavita has shipped over $1.7 million worth of products to China or seven times as much as in January-July 2018. Every month the company ships about 500 tonnes of products to China – dry and liquid dairy products with a long shelf life. Milk whey accounts for about 80% of the export to China.

Marina Askerko noted the company works with various provinces of China. Representatives of the company also look into ways to expand target markets at various international expos.

Marina Askerko mentioned strong demand and large volumes among the advantages the Chinese market has for the Gomel-based company. Transportation is not easy but doable: Milkavita ships products by container trains and by sea via the ports of Odessa and Klaipeda.

On the whole, the company intends to ship $3 million worth of dairy products to China over the course of one year. China accounted for 5.2% of the company’s export in January-July 2019.

Milkavita hosted a meeting of representatives of the Gomel Oblast administration, Gomel Oblast export companies with Zhang Yi, Director of the China meat industry trade and investment company Great Silk Road, head of the Belarusian pavilion in the Chinese city of Chengdu. The sides discussed prospects of participation of Gomel Oblast companies in the pavilion, which will be opened in November 2019. Speaking about Milkavita’s participation in the pavilion, Marina Askerko noted it would give the company another opportunity to step up presence in Chengdu.
