Belarusian food to go on display in Tokyo

MINSK, 4 February (BelTA) – Belarusian food products will be showcased for the first time at the international exhibition of food products and beverages Foodex Japan. The expo will run in Tokyo from 8 to 11 March, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belinterexpo of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“The Japanese consumer will get familiar with the Belarusian marsh-mellow, pastille, marmalade, halvah, chocolate, sweets, cookies and other confectionary products,” the Belinterexpo said. On display will also be Belarusian flour, macaroni, milk powder products, cheese, kvass, beer, alcoholic beverages, and cigarettes.

The Belarusian exposition will be presented by a number of Belarusian companies such as Kommunarka, Spartak, Krasny Pischevik, Krinitsa, Belsolod, Grodno Tobacco Factory Neman, Minsk Kristall, Lida Diary, Lidakhlebprodukt, and many others.

On 10 March presentations will be held in cooperation with the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Belarusian embassy in Japan to demonstrate the country’s trade and economic potential, companies of the national exposition, the National Investment and Privatization Agency, and the National Academy of Sciences. The business part of the program will also include talks with potential partners.

“Japan follows the path of not using genetically modified agricultural products. The absence of GMO in the Belarusian food industry may promote the interest to the Belarusian products and become a competitive advantage in the selection of exporters among other countries,” the Belinterexpo said.

The Belarusian exposition is organized by the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Among the co-organizers is the Agriculture and Food Ministry, oblast executive committees, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Foodex Japan is the number one exhibition of food products and beverages in the Asian-Pacific Region. About two thirds of participants are international companies who use this event to find consumers in Japan. In 2015 Foodex Japan gathered a record number of participants, almost 3,000 companies from 79 countries. The four-day expo was visited by more than 77,000 people.
