MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian economy is the key target of the West. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in his Address to the nation and the parliament on 31 March, BelTA has learned.

Economy is a condition for Belarus’ sovereignty and independence. Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “I could say it simpler. I’ve been talking a lot about it and assigning tasks. One can say it in concentrated terms: give me economy and I will do the rest without you. For three decades now the people-oriented economy has been the foundation of our state policy. This policy is successful and the nation supports it. Judging by all the indicators that characterize social equality, Belarus is one of the best countries. We’ve created a state without oligarchs. We have prevented a concentration of capital and properties in the same hands. All the national riches are owned by the people. This is why the economy that enables social security of the citizens represents the key target of the West.”

The Belarusian leader stressed that differences in mentality and political systems of the West and the East are the not the problem. “Everything is much simpler and more primitive. You know: no one wants sovereign Belarus and sovereign Russia with a strong economy. Possession of huge resources, primarily natural resources in addition to a high level of industrial output and serious scientific competences represent a reason behind the desire to eliminate us as competitors. Exactly as competitors. But today I am absolutely convinced that it will not happen. We will endure,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.
