Belarusian e-buses to be assembled in UK

Belarusian e-buses to be assembled in UK

LONDON, 22 November (BelTA) – Belkommunmash e-buses will be assembled in the UK. The relevant agreement was signed by the British company CAD CAM Automotive in the presence of Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Rumas in London on 21 November, BelTA has learned.

The UK has ambitious goals to convert to environmentally friendly transport - from creating Zero Emissions zones in cities to the full ban on sales of cars running on gas-engine fuel by 2040, Sergei Rumas said as he met with Martin Wheeler, Managing Director of CAD CAM Automotive.

Sergei Rumas believes that the companies that start producing environmentally friendly vehicles today will have a big advantage in the future.

“The pilot project to use the Belarusian electric bus in the UK, which will be launched shortly, will demonstrate the advantages of this mode of transport and show our British partners that Belarus is capable of producing high-quality electric buses,” the prime minister said.

With sustainable sales, the assembly facility can produce up to 300 vehicles per year. Probably, 300 electric buses are not the limit, but what is important is to take the first step, Sergei Rumas believes.

Martin Wheeler, for his part, noted that the assembly plant will be a good opportunity to showcase Belarusian technologies in the UK.

This is an interesting time, a time of very big opportunities [for the development of electric vehicles]. The British market of conventional cars is undergoing big changes, and the bus market will be growing intensively.
This is also a great opportunity for Belarus to show its technologies in the UK at a time when the market is really ripe for this. This is the first step for us for the further long-term relationship, Martin Wheeler said.
