Belarusian defense contractors sign 12 export contracts worth $140m at MILEX 2021

Belarusian defense contractors sign 12 export contracts worth $140m at MILEX 2021

MINSK, 28 June (BelTA) – Enterprises run by the State Authority for Military Industry of Belarus signed 12 export contracts worth $140 million during the international defense technology expo MILEX 2021, BelTA has learned.

Chairman of the State Authority for Military Industry of Belarus Dmitry Pantus said on the air of the Belarusian TV channel ONT on 27 June: “A number of contracts have been signed. In particular, enterprises of the State Authority for Military Industry of Belarus signed 12 export contracts worth $140 million. A number of other contracts worth about $70 million were initialed.”

The official said the expo had managed to present the entire potential of the Belarusian defense industry. The Belarusian companies did well and held over 200 negotiations with partners. More and more delegations arrived since the expo began. Representatives of 22 countries came to participate in the forum initially. The number rose to 34 countries later on.

Dmitry Pantus noted that partners had been particularly interested in new products. In particular, they showed a strong interest in helicopter-type drones and a Belarusian armored personnel carrier. Most of the 177 new products, which were presented at the expo for the first time, are used by the Belarusian army while a number of them are going through trials. “About a dozen of such products will go through state trials this year. Later on we are going to position and offer this product abroad,” the official added.

Speaking about the pandemic’s impact on the weapons market, Dmitry Pantus noted that according to various world experts Belarus is one of the top 20. “And I think these trends will stay in place. Moreover, the potential and the spectrum of capabilities of defense industry are very broad today,” he said.

The official went on saying: “We’ve transitioned from selling some specific parts and components of some weapons to a more comprehensive approach. We offer a full package, which sometimes even includes development and goes as far as the transfer of technologies, including the organization of joint assembly enterprises in foreign countries and of course aftersales service. Today the weapons market responds fast to all the new products. Quality comes to the forefront. The products, which have earned a good reputation not only in the Belarusian army but also in the international scene, certainly attract additional interest.”
