MINSK, 8 October (BelTA) – The Belarus-Egypt working group on agriculture has held a videoconference meeting, the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.

The meeting was chaired by Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Ivan Smilgin. Taking part in the meeting were Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation of Egypt Dr. Mustafa Al-Sayyad, as well as representatives of Egyptian scientific community and government agencies.

The parties acknowledged a significant milestone in their trade relationship: a doubling of agricultural trade volume in 2024 over the previous year. This growth was driven by Belarusian exports of dairy products and imports from Egypt, including fruits, vegetables, melons, and coffee extracts.

The parties discussed key areas for future growth, committing to simplify trade and resolve certification barriers. A major focus is gaining Egyptian recognition of Belarusian Halal certificates to unlock that market for domestic producers. Other priorities include launching the supply of Belarusian baby food and agricultural machinery, initiating joint feed production projects, and strengthening scientific ties in food security.

Belarusian dairy and meat companies are keen to expand their presence in Egypt, Ivan Smilgin emphasized. “We are open for businesses and ready to support partnerships that are both sustainable and mutually beneficial,” he stated, citing quality, reliability, and long-term relationships as core principles of Belarus’ international partnerships.
