MINSK, 28 December (BelTA) – Meat-processing plants bought over 10,700 tonnes of meat and meat products worth Br49.5 million via the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) in January-November 2020. Sales of these products in the domestic market increased by 11% in physical terms and by 50% in monetary terms, BelTA learned from BUCE’s press service.

As much as 52% of the total amount was provided by Belarusian manufacturers. Suppliers from the UK, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland accounted for the remaining 48%. Frozen and chilled cattle meat and by-products were in the highest demand.

“The situation in the global food market was favorable for exporters and stimulated the growing demand for meat and by-products that are used in the manufacture of sausage products and canned meat. Exchange trading enables to buy products at the lowest prices and, as a result, reduce production costs. This is why many Belarusian meat-processing plants decided to use the exchange. If international projections turn out to be correct and global sales of food products continue to grow in 2021, we can expect the same in the Belarusian commodity exchange market,” BUCE’s press service noted.
