MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian automobile engineering company SZAO BelGee expects China to fully resume the shipment of components in mid-April. The company’s Director Gennady Svidersky made the statement on 10 March when asked whether the coronavirus situation had affected the company’s operation, BelTA has learned.

The executive said: “They promise deliveries will be fully resumed sometime in mid-April. We hope we will not see any downtime since we have a certain stockpile of components. If we get more of them, everything should get back to normal.”

“There is a Wuhan-based factory that makes windshields for the entire world. It [the spread of the new coronavirus] was a problem. Geely Company personnel resumed work in early March. But there are certain shortages from other factories. They cannot gather a full package. Respectively it is difficult for them to send us assembly kits. But the first trains resumed service on 6 March, 7 March, and today. We look forward to their arrival in 18 days, maybe even in 14 days,” the BelGee director said.

The situation is normal at the BelGee factory, Gennady Svidersky assured. There are 20 specialists from China out of the 1,500 people the company employs. They were on vacation together with the other personnel in December and did not visit the People’s Republic of China during the coronavirus epidemic.

Speaking about the collapse of the oil prices, the BelGee director said he believes it will have an effect on the automobile engineering industry. “If there are serious fluctuations of the exchange rate in the automotive industry, then certainly things get difficult. We stick to last year’s prices but our efforts have a limit. All these events should affect the prime cost of the products we make and respectively the prices,” Gennady Svidersky believes.
