Belarusian Belkommunmash to ship 8 electrobuses to Batumi in H1 2020

MINSK, 23 August (BelTA) - The Belarusian mechanical engineering company Belkommunmash will ship eight electrobuses to Batumi in the second half of 2019, BelTA learned from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Georgia Mikhail Myatlikov.
“Literally several days ago Belkommunmash won the tender to supply electobuses to Batumi and will ship the first eight buses in the first half of 2020,” Mikhail Myatlikov said.
He noted that in 2018 the trade between Belarus and Georgia topped $113 million. The ambassador said it could have been better but pointed out that the trade demonstrated positive dynamics. Trade in tourism and transport services has been particularly successful. “More and more Belarusian tourists travel to Georgia every year. They choose not only seaside resorts in Batumi, but also ski resorts and food tours. Belarusian transport companies account for a large share of trade in services. Trade in medical and educational services has also been on the rise and increased by around 25%,” Mikhail Myatlikov noted.
Belarus and Georgia aim to achieve $200 million in trade by 2020. However, in the first half of 2019, the trade amounted to $37 million, 5% down year-on-year. The trade in services increased by almost 18% and totaled $9.2 million. “The Belarusian agricultural machinery manufacturer Gomselmash shipped around 30 harvesters to Kakheti in the first half of 2018, but none in the first half of 2019,” the ambassador said, commenting on the decrease in trade.
In H1 2019, major Belarusian exports from Georgia were synthetic treads, milk and dairy products, medications, electric transformers, wires, and cables. Georgia exported mineral water, distilled spirits, grape wines, nuts, and oil products to Belarus.
As many as 17 companies with Georgian capital operate in Belarus. There are over 20 representative offices, daughter enterprises, and distributors of Belarusian companies in Georgia. Two furniture stores with Pinskdrev products, ten Belarusian grocery shops have opened in Tbilisi and Batumi. An assembly plant for Mogilevliftmash elevators opened in Tbilisi last spring. Light tractors of Bobruisk Plant of Tractor Parts and Units have been assembled in Batumi since March 2019.
