Belarus views cooperation with Russia in flax production, sheep farming as promising

MINSK, 15 May (BelTA) – Belarus views its cooperation with Russia in flax production and sheep farming as promising, Belarus Agriculture and Food Minister Anatoly Khotko said as he addressed a joint meeting of the boards of the agricultural ministries of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.

“We consider our cooperation with Russia in flax production and sheep farming to be promising. In our view, the leading scientific institutions of the two countries can develop a joint sci-tech program of flax production in Belarus and Russia. The program can focus on advanced technology and innovative methods to cultivate fiber flax for flax straw, the cultivation of varieties with a high content of fiber, the design of a flax harvester to crop the high-yielding product, technological equipment for primary flax processing. Taking into account the expertise and the level of sheep farming in Russia, we will appreciate Russia’s assistance in the development of the Belarusian sheep breeding sector and also possible supplies of high-quality young breeders,” said Anatoly Khotko.

A joint session of the boards of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry and the Russian Agriculture Ministry is running in Minsk on 15 May. The agenda features several major items: trade in agricultural products and food, the indicative balances of supply and demand of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in 2019, cooperation in veterinary and phytosanitary oversight, and interaction in the course of implementing Union State programs.
