Belarus, Uzbekistan to set up joint venture to produce medical products

BORISOV, 25 July (BelTA) – Belarus and Uzbekistan have plans to establish a joint venture to manufacture medical products, Deputy Director of the Pharmaceutical Industry Directorate – Head for Economy and Marketing at the Healthcare Ministry of Belarus Viktor Shein told reporters on 25 July, BelTA has learned.

Talks on the joint venture are being conducted in Uzbekistan by top managers of the Belpharmprom Holding Company and Borisov Pharmaceutical Company’s affiliate Frebor that produces infusion and transfusion sets, blood transfusion sets, drainage systems and other products for dialysis. “We want to relocate some of our capacities and set up a joint venture in Uzbekistan,” Viktor Shein said.

He noted that the same scheme will be used in other countries, for example, in Georgia and Tajikistan. This is in keeping with modern trends: foreign partners are interested not only in direct supplies, but also in establishing joint ventures with Belarusians.

Representatives of the Belarusian pharmaceutical industry have recently attended an international expo in Tokyo. “We have found partners from faraway countries who are interested in direct supplies of Belarusian products, establishment of joint ventures in the adjacent markets and the use of Belarusian pharmaceutical substances to produce drugs in their territories,” Viktor Shein said.

In 2017 Belarusian pharmaceutical companies shipped around $140m worth of products abroad. Belarus-made drugs are exported to over 30 countries worldwide.
