Belarus, Uzbekistan to expand exchange trade in textile goods
MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Uzbekistan plan to expand exchange trading in textile products, the press service of the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) told BelTA.
Regular mutual shipments of raw materials for the textile industry via BUCE can become a new point for increasing the volume of exchange trading between Belarus and Uzbekistan and can contribute to more active use of capabilities of the Belarusian electronic platform by Uzbek private sector. Head of the Foreign Economic Activity Department at BUCE Yaroslav Kovalchuk expressed this opinion during a meeting with a delegation of textile enterprises of Uzbekistan. About 60 representatives of Uzbek business circles took part in the event held at the headquarters of the exchange in Minsk.
“According to data for January-August 2026, purchases of Belarusian timber products – primarily sawn timber accounted for 65% of the total sum of transactions of Uzbek companies accredited on our platform. In monetary terms, it was $65 million, which is almost a third more than in the same period of last year. Apart from that, the demand of Uzbek participants for Belarus-made milk powder has significantly increased. The sales growth rate reached 169% as against January-August 2025. I consider products of the textile industry to be another promising area of exchange trading with Uzbekistan. In particular, cotton yarn and polyester threads, which are already sold at trading sessions by Uzbek producers, are in high demand in Belarus. At the same time, compared to last year, the amount of transactions has increased by many times, which indicates significant potential for scaling up. In turn, Belarusian enterprises are ready to supply flax fiber to the Uzbek market, which is among the most popular commodity items among foreign importers today. I am confident that such mutually beneficial cooperation will not only have a positive impact on the dynamics of exchange trade turnover between Belarus and Uzbekistan, but will also give an additional impetus to the development of bilateral trade and economic relations,” head of the Foreign Economic Activity Department at BUCE stressed.
Special attention during the meeting with the Uzbek delegation was paid to exchange trading in industrial and consumer goods where a wide range of non-resource goods is sold as well as to the possibilities of working on the exchange through professional participants – exchange brokers, thereby outsourcing the conclusion of transactions.
As of 23 September 2026, 305 residents of Uzbekistan were accredited with BUCE, including two companies with the status of exchange brokers. Since the beginning of the year 53 new participants from Uzbekistan have joined the Belarusian exchange platform.
The public joint-stock company (OAO) Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange was established in 2004. The first trading session was conducted in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest mercantile exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its key function is to assist Belarusian companies with exporting their products and assist foreign companies with entering the Belarusian market. The commodity exchange facilitates trade in metals, timber, agricultural products, and a broad choice of industrial and consumer goods.
