Belarus-Uzbekistan commission on cooperation gearing up for meeting

MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Uzbekistan Leonid Marinich met with First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Farhod Arziyev to discuss relations between the two countries and ways to intensify trade and economic cooperation, BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission.

The parties supported the need to update the roadmap for bilateral cooperation, which was approved by the heads of government in November 2018.

The parties discussed the preparations for the 8th session of the joint intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation in Tashkent in 2020, and also ministerial consultations at the level of deputy ministers of foreign affairs of Belarus and Uzbekistan.

“The ambassador updated the Uzbekistan official on the topical issues of trade and economic cooperation and joint projects. He drew attention to the need to promote the development of a relatively new area of cooperation - the interaction of regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan, and informed about the events held to promote it,” the embassy said.

The representative of the Uzbekistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the dynamic development of Belarusian-Uzbek cooperation in various sectors, as well as mutual support of the parties in international organizations. The diplomat stressed the importance of effective implementation of reached agreements at the highest and high level to make significant progress in bilateral cooperation.

In January-September 2020 the trade between Belarus and Uzbekistan amounted to $168.2 million, slightly below last year's figures. Belarus exported $137.6 million worth of goods (102.7%). The country posted trade surplus of $107 million.
