Belarus, Uganda discuss amino acids and equipment supplies

Belarus, Uganda discuss amino acids and equipment supplies

MINSK, 8 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Uganda are working to expand cooperation in agriculture, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry following a meeting between Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Yuri Gorlov and Uganda’s delegation led by Ugandan State Minister for Animal Industry Rwamirama Bright Kanyontore.

The main topic of the negotiations was the removal of barriers to bilateral trade and the development of new areas of interaction. Currently, trade between the countries is limited to supplies of Ugandan coffee to Belarus. There are no exports of Belarusian products to Uganda due to high import duties of up to 60% on meat and dairy products for countries that are not members of the East African Community.

“To solve this problem, the parties will step up work under the memorandum of understanding on food security signed in February 2024. The Belarusian side has formed its part of the joint technical committee on agriculture. During the negotiations, the Belarusian side suggested that the Ugandan partners should consider supplies of amino acids from the Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation, livestock and processing equipment, training of Ugandan specialists in Belarusian agricultural higher education institutions, and continuation of purchases of Ugandan coffee and cocoa beans,” the press service said.

The Ugandan delegation learned about the potential of Belarusian agricultural enterprises and agricultural machinery manufacturers. The parties expressed confidence in the possibility of increasing mutually beneficial cooperation.
