Belarus, Turkey to cooperate in peaceful uses of nuclear energy

MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) – Representatives of the Belarusian and Turkish governments signed an agreement on cooperation in peaceful uses of nuclear energy in Minsk on 11 November, the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry told BelTA.

The agreement provides for advancing Belarus-Turkey cooperation in the sphere of fundamental and applied research and development with a view to using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Among other things Belarus and Turkey will work together to select construction sites, design, build, operate, modernize, test, and maintain nuclear power plants and research reactors.

Plans have been made to establish cooperation in the management of radioactive waste, in the development of cutting-edge and innovative nuclear reactors, nuclear fuel cycle technologies, and other things.

The Belarusian-Turkish intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in peaceful uses of nuclear energy was signed by Belarusian First Deputy Energy Minister Leonid Shenets and Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak.
