Belarus to take part in Turkmenistan roads, airport construction tenders

MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) – Belarus will take part in tenders to construct roads and a new airport in Turkmenistan, Belarus’ Vice Premier Anatoly Kalinin said in an interview to the ONT TV Channel, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus is determined to participate in a tender on the construction of motor roads. The Turkmenistan President has offered us the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat project which is about 700km long. We have also received a proposal to build a new airport in the area near the mining and processing factory. Keeping in mind that the region has a well-developed production infrastructure, including a cement plant and a factory to produce building materials, the area will need a more developed transport infrastructure,” Anatoly Kalinin noted.

The Belarus-Turkmenistan intergovernmental commission is set to meet in April 2017. According to Anatoly Kalinin, the two heads of state have instructed the governments of the two countries to develop closer cooperation in IT, transfer Belarus’ best practices in vocational education, develop speedy rail services in Turkmenistan, and consider the prospects for tourism development. Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow also suggested closer cooperation in the rail transport logistics.

“Belarus has reached $300 million in the export of goods and services to Turkmenistan. The primary goal is to increase the export of services and implement the plans in the near future,” Anatoly Kalinin stressed.
