Belarus to take part in construction of 4,500 housing units in Venezuela in 2016

MINSK, 18 November (BelTA) – Plans have been made to build some 4,500 housing units in Venezuela with the participation of Belarusian construction workers, BelTA learned from the press service of the Architecture and Construction Ministry of Belarus. A Belarusian delegation has recently visited the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The delegation was headed by Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko. Business meetings were held as part of the visit to discuss the cooperation between the two countries in different fields.

Vladimir Semashko met with Venezuelan Minister of Housing and Habitat Manuel Quevedo. The Venezuelan Minister stressed that the country hopes to continue its close cooperation with Belarus in the coming year. He thanked Belarusian construction workers for their great work in 2015. “Our government has promised the people of Venezuela to complete a total of one million homes by the year-end. The main part of this project has already been carried out. I should note that Belarusian specialists significantly contributed to this,” Manuel Quevedo emphasized.

He also thanked Belarus for its considerable contribution to the implementation of the program Housing Mission. “This is a social project aimed at solving the housing problem in Venezuela and, in particular, providing aid to the families left homeless after the torrential rains that hit the country in late 2010-early 2011,” Manuel Quevedo noted. The project envisages construction of three million housing units for Venezuelan citizens by 2019. Belarusian specialists are involved in the construction of some 20,000 apartments, almost 6,766 of which have already been completed. Another 4,500 housing units will be built with Belarus’ participation in 2016.

Belarus’ Architecture and Construction Minister Anatoly Chernyi visited the construction site of 3,000 apartments near the Fuerte Tiuna military base in Miranda State.

The Venezuelan side noted that the Belarusian-Venezuelan project is progressing well. The first 144 apartments have been constructed in one of the residential neighborhoods. Another 144 housing units are expected to be built by the end of 2015. The parties also discussed the current matters and prospects of Belarus-Venezuela cooperation in construction.
