Belarus to set up food and craft cluster

Belarus to set up food and craft cluster

BREST, 26 January (BelTA) - Brest Oblast of Belarus is introducing the Navakolle cluster model as part of the project “Support for economic development at the local level in the Republic of Belarus”. It is aimed at promoting natural and craft goods of local producers, BelTA learned from Valeriya Klitsunova, the chairwoman of the board of the Belarusian public association Country Escape.

“We have many artisans, farmers, those engaged in baking bread, producing eco-snacks and other natural products. That is why the idea of setting up a food and craft cluster emerged, so that representatives of small businesses could promote their products under the local brand,” said Valeriya Klitsunova.

The cluster will unite representatives of small businesses from Kobrin and neighboring Malorita, Zhabinka, Pruzhany, Berezф, Drogichin and Kamenets districts. Participants will be welcomed to attend trainings, webinars and fairs. The initiative will be supported by the Brest Oblast Executive Committee and the Kobrin District Executive Committee, private companies, and farm stays of the region. The first meeting will be held in the Studinka agro-farm in the village of Girsk on 27 January.

“We will implement this project during 2021. Its participants will have the opportunity to sell their goods at various sites, large fairs. We hope to find like-minded people who can work together on the Navacolle brand and promote the products of their region,” said Valeriya Klitsunova. She added that there is an idea to develop a tourist route, which involves visits to craft workshops, farms and farm stays.

The Navakolle initiative is financed by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Program in partnership with the Economy Ministry of Belarus.
