Belarus to get 160,000t of oil from Azerbaijani SOCAR

MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim has arranged the delivery of 160,000 tonnes of oil from the Azerbaijani company SOCAR, Belneftekhim Press Secretary Aleksandr Tishchenko told BelTA.

The spokesman said: “The deal with SOCAR provides for shipping two tankers of oil – about 160,000 tonnes.”

Aleksandr Tishchenko explained that oil will be delivered across Ukraine via the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline.

“As a result, in March we look forward to receiving two tankers of oil from the northern direction and another two from the southern one in addition to supplies from six Russian companies via the pipeline,” the press secretary added.

Earlier BelTA quoted Belneftekhim Deputy Chairman Vladimir Sizov as saying that Belarus intends to start importing oil via the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline in March. The official said: “Work is in progress on alternative oil purchases via the southern route, from Ukrainian territory. Deliveries along the Odessa-Brody [pipeline] will begin soon, in March. The volume will be several tankers.” In his words, the pipeline infrastructure (the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline) will be used as the most economic, fast, and reliable means of transportation.

Two tankers carrying 160,000 tonnes of Russian oil bought for Belarusian oil refineries through traders without paying a premium are expected to reach the Klaipeda port in March as well.
