Belarus to expand cooperation in light industry with Uzbekistan

MINSK, 6 August (BelTA) – Belarus intends to expand cooperation in light industry with Uzbekistan, Tatiana Lugina, Chairperson of the Belarusian state light industry concern Bellegprom, said in an interview to the First News TV Channel, BelTA reports.
“Belarus and Uzbekistan have strong light industry ties, with Uzbekistan actively developing its light industry sector for 15 years. Uzbekistan has implemented favorable policies and attracted significant investments to grow its light industry, which is of great interest to us. The upcoming third Belarus-Uzbekistan Women's Business Forum will serve as a platform to exchange expertise, with a focus on both nations' competitive advantages. Uzbekistan's strength lies in raw materials like cotton and cotton yarn, as well as labor resources. Meanwhile, they value Belarus' strong engineering and design capabilities. We continue training skilled technologists. That’s why they are interested in our ability to develop technical documentation meeting global standards while maintaining high product quality. At the same time, we benefit from Uzbekistan's workforce,” Tatiana Lugina said.
She highlighted ongoing joint projects, including garment production in Uzbekistan and coordinated sales strategies in the Russian market. “Belarus is also exploring opportunities to access third-country markets through this partnership,” she noted.
“The bilateral forum would prioritize cooperation in leather and footwear industry. Uzbekistan has invested heavily in modernizing its tanneries and developing footwear manufacturing. We plan to discuss this topic, along with personnel training programs for chemists, technologists and engineers. Our goal is to identify new cooperation avenues to strengthen export positions, including in distant markets. Such forums consistently generate valuable insights for enhancing industrial and trade collaboration while exploring technological innovations,” Tatiana Lugina added.
