Belarus to continue efforts to improve positions on Doing Business list

DZERZHINSKY DISTRICT, 3 November (BelTA) - Belarus’ Economy Ministry will be working to strengthen the country’s position in the Doing Business ranking. This matter was high on the agenda of a visiting session of the House of Representatives’ permanent commission on labor and social affairs that discussed jobs and employment, BelTA has learned.

Deputy Economy Minister Dmitry Matusevich noted that Belarus placed well in this year’s Doing Business report. “But we will still be taking measures to move forward," he said.

The deputy minister assured that all indicators will be analyzed and the relevant ministries and departments will be offered the measures to improve the situation. Special measures under the small and medium business promotion program will be adjusted too.

“This year Belarus performed better across all indicators but one. But other countries also improve their positions and undertake reforms. Doing Business is, in fact, a competition of legislation and administrative procedures. This year, Russia vaulted five positions up leaving Belarus and Kazakhstan behind,” Dmitry Matusevich said.

As BelTA reported earlier, Belarus ranked 38th out of 190 economies covered in the World Bank’s Doing Business report 2018. Belarus stood at the 37th position in the previous World Bank’s Doing Business report.

Several parameters were evaluated to make up the total score of the country. Getting Construction Permits in Belarus scored 22 (28 in the Doing Business 2017 report), Registering Property — 5 (5), Paying Taxes — 96 (99), Resolving Insolvency — 68 (69). Ten indicators were analyzed in total.
