Belarus to connect trade routes of Germany, China

BAKU, 14 March (BelTA-Trend) – Belarus is working out the trade route Germany-Belarus-China, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk said at the international conference “The role of parliamentarians in boosting economic cooperation and cultural ties along the Silk Road” organized by the Silk Road Support Group of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Baku.

“Our goal is to develop a green transport corridor Nuremberg-Minsk-Urumqi, which is an object of interest for a number of countries. It will help facilitate the transportation of goods for China and Germany and expand the transit potential of Belarus,” Boleslav Pirshtuk said.

In his words, the transit of goods is the most important resource of the country's economy. “About 100 million tonnes of cargo are transported through Belarus each year, which does not meet even a half of the real carrying capacity of the Belarusian railways,” the vice speaker said.

According to him, the country was among the first states to support China’s new Silk Road initiative to support the development of a wide range of sectors of the countries along the route, including Belarus, especially in agriculture, technology, energy. “One of the key factors to give a boost to these sectors is to expand the export potential through connecting all the countries of the Silk Road into a single transport network,” Boleslav Pirshtuk noted.
