Belarus to adopt green economy action plan by year-end 2016

MINSK, 12 October (BelTA) – Belarus will adopt a national action plan to achieve green economy by the end of the year, Belarusian First Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister Iya Malkina said at the plenary meeting of the 21st Belarusian Energy and Ecology Forum on 12 October, BelTA has learned.

“Energy security and environment are the focus of talk at many international summits. Belarus has also been paying much attention to this topic. A national action plan to introduce green economy principles in Belarus will be adopted by the end of the year,” Iya Malkina noted.

She pointed out that Belarus ratified the Paris climate change agreement on 21 September. “In fact, we are witnessing the beginning of a strategic change in the operating principles of the global economy. We need to develop a system for interaction between the energy and environment sectors. We need advanced technologies, new rules and approaches,” Iya Malkina believes.

The 21st Belarusian Energy and Ecology Forum is running in Minsk from 11 to 14 October. The business program includes a plenary meeting, international conferences, workshops, and presentations by domestic and foreign companies that demonstrate the latest technological solutions in energy and ecology.

The forum aims to promote innovative development of the fuel and energy sector of Belarus. The annual event provides Belarusian and foreign experts with a platform to strengthen their cooperation and exchange advanced solutions and projects.
