Belarus, South Korea to hold joint R&D contest

MINSK, 25 July (BelTA) – The State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus and the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning of South Korea will organize a contest of joint R&D projects for 2017-2019, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian State Science and Technology Committee.

Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee Alexander Shumilin remarked that the applications will be open from 1 August to 28 September 2017 as he met with President of Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) Lee Byung Gwon. The contest will focus on the key avenues of Belarus-South Korea cooperation in science: nuclear energy, aerospace, biotechnologies, new materials, and additive technologies.

For his part, KIST President noted that KIST comprises a number of R&D institutes that operate R&D centers. The sides can open joint R&D centers and laboratories to carry out R&D projects of mutual interest, he said. These are primarily microelectronics, medicine, and physiology.

The Belarusian-South Korean R&D contest is held in accordance with the intergovernmental agreement on economic, scientific, and technical cooperation of 17 May 2004.

Established in 1966 as the first national R&D institute, KIST has remained the leading institute in this field. The main goal of the institute is to find solutions to such global challenges as population aging and limited energy, food, and other resources by means of advanced scientific research.
