Belarus set to reach $8bn in food exports by 2025

MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) - Belarus plans to increase its food exports up to $8 billion by 2025, Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Igor Brylo told the media at the 6th international forum Meat Industry of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

“Thanks to modernization, milk production has increased 1.5 times and meat production has almost doubled since 1995. Today we fully meet the country’s needs in food products, and our enterprises operate stably. Our production line includes more than 1,500 types of dairy products and more than 1,000 types of meat products. Last year the Belarusian food exports were worth $6.7 billion. There are no failures in the supply of foodstuffs and the sowing campaign is held on time,” the minister said.

In his words, Belarus’ food exports totaled $1 billion in January-February 2022. According to him, this makes it possible to project that the country’s food exports will make up $7 billion by the end of this year.

“In 2021 our country ranked 36th out of 113 countries according to the global index of food security. Nevertheless, we continue to grow and move forward. We want to take our agro-industrial complex to a new level of development. In this five-year period, we plan to increase agricultural production by 14% and to produce 9.2 million tonnes of milk and 2.1 million tonnes of meat in 2025, and to reach $8 billion in food exports,” said Igor Brylo.
