Belarus set to increase exports to Africa

MINSK, 27 July (BelTA) - Enterprises of the Belarusian Industry Ministry is set to increase exports to Africa, Industry Minister Piotr Parkhomchik told the media on 27 July, BelTA has learned.

“We already have preliminary results of the ministry’s work in January-June 2022. We maintain high export growth. The growth made up 10.4% compared to the same period last year. Given the sanctions and actions of unfriendly countries, we are working to reorient the exports,” said Piotr Parkhomchik.

In his words, the African market is a priority. “There are positive examples. We ensured comprehensive supplies of equipment to Zimbabwe. This was the second tranche. Last year we supplied 900 items of equipment. This year we have already supplied 1,400, including tractors, harvesters and other agricultural equipment. We are now discussing new large supplies to this region. The export structure is also expanding. We have received a big order on firefighting equipment,” the minister said.

He added that there were good prerequisites for deliveries to Nigeria. “A pilot batch of 63 tractors will be shipped in the next few days. We are discussing a possible visit of the Minister of Agriculture of the country to Belarus. We are set to discuss the supply of about 1,000 tractors,” Piotr Parkhomchik said.

Products of Belarusian Steel Works (BMZ brand) will also be reoriented to the markets of Africa and Asia. “There are logistics issues which we are solving now,” the minister said.

“We expect that the losses that we incur in the markets of unfriendly countries will be compensated at the expense of the African continent,” the minister concluded.
