MINSK, 18 November (BelTA) - Belarus is a reliable link in the logistics routes for China’s container shipping, Belarusian Transport and Communications Minister Aleksei Lyakhnovich said at the 2nd China-Europe Railway Express Cooperation Forum, BelTA learned from the press service of the Transport and Communications Ministry.
The theme of the forum, held in China, was Connecting Asia and Europe for a Shared Future. Aleksei Lyakhnovich noted that Belarus is actively participating in the implementation of China’s Belt and Road initiative. Rail freight transport is developing dynamically.
“The Belarusian Railways can handle over 30 container trains daily, with a route speed exceeding 1,200 km per day. Over 12 years, the brand of China-Europe container trains has become globally recognized as a mark of quality, efficiency, and a multi-level cooperation system (between states, railway, and transport-logistics companies),” the minister said.
The railways participating in the route cooperate within platforms of international organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Organization for Cooperation between Railways.
A network of transport and logistics centers and freight terminals has been established in Belarus to service the container flow. “Our country has reserves in terminal handling and train capacity to multiply the volume of transit rail shipments. Container shipping initiatives using through schedules are being developed with the support of China Railway. In January-October 2025, over 400 container trains on through schedules have passed through Belarus,” Aleksei Lyakhnovich said.
Within the Belt and Road initiative, close contacts have been established with major transport and logistics platforms in various Chinese cities. One of the priority areas for developing the container shipping business is creating the necessary conditions for Belarusian enterprises to promote domestic products on the Chinese market.
