Belarus seeks to boost exports to Pakistan’s Sindh province

MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – Belarus is determined to increase its presence on the market of the Pakistani province of Sindh. This matter was in focus of the visit of Ambassador of Belarus to Pakistan Andrei Metelitsa to Karachi, the capital of the province and Pakistan’s trading and financial center, BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission.

The Belarusian ambassador met with Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan Reza Baqir to discuss cooperation in the financial field and interaction with the National Bank of Belarus, as well as mechanisms to support the export of Belarusian goods to Pakistan.

Andrei Metelitsa visited the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority and had talks with its Director General Abdul Aleem Memon. They discussed efforts to implement the Memorandum of Cooperation in Standardization and Information Support, including ways to intensify the work to bring the certificates of Belarusian enterprises into compliance with Pakistani standards and Halal requirements. An agreement was reached to hold a bilateral online event to discuss requirements for the supply of animal products to Pakistan.

The Belarusian diplomat also met with Editor-In-Chief of Pakistan’s English-language daily DAWN Zaffar Abbas. The parties discussed the exchange of information and direct interaction with the Belarusian News Agency BelTA and other Belarusian media outlets.

The meeting with senior executives of the Ecommerce Gateway Pakistan event management company focused on the preparation of the National Exposition of Belarus for the participation at the International Engineering and Machinery Asia Exhibition (IEMA) in Karachi in November this year.

Interregional cooperation was top on the agenda of the talks with Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah. The head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission conveyed an invitation for him to visit Gomel Oblast, the partner region of Sindh.

In Karachi, the Belarusian ambassador also held a series of talks on economic cooperation. He met with senior executives of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, local companies, international trade and cooperation organizations to discuss cooperation in the manufacturing industry, agriculture and education, including the prospects for increasing the supply of Belarusian products to Pakistan.
