MINSK, 4 March (BelTA) - Belarus seeks closer cooperation with Latvia in transport and logistics, the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry told BelTA after the meeting of Belarus’ Transport and Communications Minister Aleksei Avramenko with Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Communications of Latvia Uldis Reimanis and Latvian Ambassador to Belarus Einars Semanis.

“We are interested in closer cooperation in transport and logistics. The priority tasks are to increase trade and boost transport services and freight traffic through Belarusian railway and air routes. We are ready to work to achieve the best results for the business community and our countries in general,” Aleksei Avramenko said.

The minister stressed that the parties should jointly look for growth points in the transport sector and to use all available reserves. In particular, Belarus is interested in attracting additional cargo flows through Latvian ports. “We are already working with our Northern (Sweden, Norway and Finland) and Southern (Ukraine) partners to set up the North-South corridor,” he said.

Aleksei Avramenko added that a Belarus-Latvia business forum will be held in Riga to discuss trade and economic cooperation. Government agencies have plans to sign three documents.
