MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – The second university nanosatellite is ready for launch in Belarus, Sergei Zolotoi, Director of the R&D enterprise Geoinformation Systems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), chief designer of the Belarusian system for the remote sensing of Earth, told a press conference on 8 April, BelTA has learned.

“The Belarusian State University (BSU) launched its small satellite BSU Sat-1 two years ago. Another satellite is ready for launch. Its development involves various space technologies. The training of personnel is also in full swing. This indicates the development of a fully functional space industry in Belarus,” said Sergei Zolotoi.

The nanosatellite BSU Sat-1 of the Belarusian State University was put in orbit from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in China on 29 October 2018.

It became the first university satellite in the Belarusian education system and the third object of domestic origin in the Earth orbit. With its relatively small weight (about 1.6kg) it has all the characteristics of large universal satellites. It is equipped with power supply, control, orientation and stabilization systems, telecommunications, a complex of technological and scientific payloads. It is also enriched with a digital camera, radiation spectrometer, infrared detector and other special equipment. The software for the satellite has been developed by BSU scientists. The program was been developed individually for the technical characteristics of the satellite vehicle, the satellite service platform and the tasks of the target equipment.
