Belarus, Russia’s Kaliningrad Oblast map out future cooperation

MINSK, 16 July (BelTA) - Belarusian products are in demand in Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko told the media following the 21st meeting of the Belarusian-Russian Council for Long-Term Cooperation with Kaliningrad Oblast, BelTA learned from the government press service.

The parties discussed the prospects for cooperation in industry, agriculture, construction, transport, and humanitarian matters. Yuri Shuleiko emphasized that Kaliningrad Oblast is a strategic partner for Belarus.

Food products are supplied to the region according to the needs of local residents. “Our products are well-liked, and we are seeing growth across all areas,” the deputy prime minister noted.

One of the key areas is mechanical engineering. Here, too, specific areas of interest have been identified where there is potential to utilize additional financial support instruments for programs to procure municipal and passenger vehicles. “We discussed this issue in great detail,” Yuri Shuleiko added.

Cooperation has been established in agriculture and the construction sector. In particular, granite stone and crushed stone are supplied from Belarus. “Year after year, we confirm our commitments. Logistics has changed. On certain issues, the governor and I have reached a clear understanding of how to resolve them and ensure a stable presence going forward,” he said.

A new agreement was signed between companies to supply the required volume of cement. Prospects for cooperation in tourism were also considered. “A wonderful region. For Belarusians, the Baltic Sea turned out to be the closest in terms of flight time – just 2 hours and 20 minutes,” Yuri Shuleiko noted.

According to him, the 21st meeting of the Belarusian-Russian Council for Long-Term Cooperation was productive. Tasks have been set and avenues identified to strengthen cooperation.

The Belarusian delegation also included heads of Mogilevliftmash, Minsk Automobile Plant, Belarusian Cement Company, and producers of meat and dairy products from various regions, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelTPP).

B2B negotiations between Belarusian and Kaliningrad companies were held at the Kaliningrad Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation and expansion of trade ties were discussed, and agreements were signed. For example, Lida Milk Canning Plant (Novogrudok Dary branch) and the Baltic Company (Kaliningrad) agreed on the supply of skimmed milk powder worth RUB5 million.

The previous meeting of the council was held in Minsk on 1-2 October 2025.
