Belarus, Russia urged to use their strong sides to take leading positions in world economy

GRODNO, 1 July (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia can make the most of their strong sides to take leading positions in the world economy, Chair of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natalya Kochanova said at the plenary session “The role of interregional cooperation in deepening the Union State integration processes” at the 9th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in Grodno on 1 July, BelTA has learned.

“Today, the key issue for many manufacturers is not so much the conclusion of a contract, but timely payments. Therefore, if we want our cooperation to benefit businesses, we need to come up with effective mechanisms to make sure that payments are made in time and in full and this should be ensured by banks or government agencies. It is extremely important to deliver on our promises to create a level-playing field for Belarusian and Russian business entities. After all, people assess the achievements of the Union State based on what they see in reality. This pertains to customs inspection of goods, taxes and accounting, price setting, guarantees and compensations for business trips, certification requirements for personnel, equipment, technologies,” Natalya Kochanova said.

The speaker pointed to economic self-sufficiency of Belarus and Russia. “We have energy, defense, food, scientific security, that is, something that many countries can only dream of. We need to joint efforts to get integrated into the matrix of regional markets of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Association of Southeast Asia. We can use our strong sides to take leading positions in the world economy,” the speaker emphasized.
