Belarus-Russia Union State urged to develop programs in petrochemicals, electronics, biotechnology

MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – The Belarus-Russia Union State programs should cover petrochemicals, electronics and biotechnology, chairman of the permanent commission for international affairs and national security of the Council of the Republic Chairman Sergei Rakhmanov told the media on 27 April, BelTA has learned.

According to Sergei Rakhmanov, emphasis needs to be made on the priority positions that enable the economies of Russia and Belarus develop based on modern principles.

“Now there are no Union State programs that would cover such industry as petrochemicals, which manufacture a large number of products, much better in quality than those that we have in Russia and Belarus today. There are no programs either in electronics, micro-electronics, without which no modern society can develop today, or in biotechnology, or cellular technology. These are not some narrow-focus projects but a serious large-scale program that will help our society to move forward economically. That is exactly what we are working on now,” the senator said.

The recommendations were high on the agenda of the meeting of section No. 5 of the Scientific Advisory Council for Social and Economic Development of Belarus at the Presidium of the Council of the Republic. The event was attended by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Yevdochenko, Deputy Justice Minister Igor Tushinsky, Deputy Healthcare Minister Vyacheslav Shilo, the head of the main directorate of economic integration at the Economy Ministry Aleksei Matsevilo. The meeting chaired by Sergei Rakhmanov examined the development of integration processes in the Eurasian Economic Union and the Belarus-Russia Union State.
