MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) – The best response to the sanctions is the close-knit partnership between Belarus and Russia, State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Dmitry Mezentsev said at the 8th Belarusian Space Congress, BelTA has learned.

“The best response to the unprecedented pressure from the West is more cohesive, consistent, professional work as well as good understanding of what we have and what we can do together at the moment. This is the foundation for our partnership and it helps us avoid groundless disputes. We have entered a new stage of economic integration using the formula – two states striving for one economy,” Dmitry Mezentsev said.

When asked whether the Western sanctions are holding back the cooperation between Belarus and Russia in the field of space, he said: “The level of integration that we have achieved by now, and the goals that we want to reach will be the most successful response to the sanctions. At this stage, there are certain difficulties and we want to overcome them as soon as possible. Yet, this is also an incentive to deepen research and development work, to analyze our potential for the implementation of joint space programs of the Union State.”

According to the state secretary of the Union State, seven space programs have been successfully implemented. “Recently we have launched the eighth program - Integration-SG. In addition to that, as it has already been mentioned, Belarus and Russia are ready to develop a joint spacecraft for remote sensing of the Earth. Significant funds have been allocated for this project. Moreover, we want the next stage of the work on the satellite to proceed within the framework of the officially approved program of the Union State. This will once again highlight one of the priorities of the Union State construction,” he said.

Dmitry Mezentsev emphasized the great importance of the space sector for the real sector of the economy, including agricultural workers and land surveyors. “The Belarusian ground-based space infrastructure has been successfully integrated into the Roscosmos system. This makes it possible to synchronize and achieve common standards,” the state secretary of the Union State added.

The 8th Belarusian Space Congress is taking place at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, on the premises of the Informatics Institute and the A.V. Lykov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute. Participants of the congress are expected to hear out over 120 reports by scientists and specialists from Belarus, Russia, China, and Uzbekistan.

The National Academy of Sciences is running an exhibition of space solutions and products that were developed as part of science and technology programs and projects, as well as an exposition of professional and popular science literature on space.
