Belarus’ role in cross-border e-commerce highlighted in Xi’an

MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) - At the invitation of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the Department of Commerce of the People's Government of Shaanxi Province, diplomats of the Belarusian Embassy in China took part in a ceremony to open the Silk Road International Exposition, the Investment and Trade Forum for Cooperation between East and West China and a roundtable on cooperation in cross-border e-commerce in Xi'an, BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Beijing.

The opening ceremony was addressed by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, foreign ministers of several Central Asian countries, and also representatives of the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China.

Cross-border e-commerce and new opportunities for Belt and Road countries took center stage at the roundtable. During the event, Tatiana Kharlap, a senior adviser at the Belarusian Embassy, spoke about the role and potential of Belarus in the development of cross-border e-commerce of the Belt and Road countries in the Eurasian region. The main advantages, according to the diplomat, are as follows: openness of the Belarusian economy and growing exports of high-quality Belarusian products to China; attractive logistics and a number of new international projects, including the project to set up an international logistics terminal in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone with the participation of China Merchants Group, the managing company of Duisport, Belarusian Railways and the Swiss company Hupac Intermodal; growing interregional ties, including within the framework of the Year of the Regions of Belarus and China; a thriving information technology industry.

Following the conference, China announced a three-year action plan to improve the cargo service along the route China - Europe - China through Belarus in order to spur the development of cross-border e-commerce.
