Belarus revises power industry development plan through 2025

MINSK, 9 October (BelTA) - The government has revised the power industry development plan through 2025 taking into account the commissioning of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP). The decision is envisaged in Council of Ministers’ Decree No.582 of 6  October 2020. The document has been officially published on the National Legal Internet Portal, BelTA has learned.

The BelNPP commissioning deadlines were extended through 2022. The construction of peak-reserve power stations has also been extended through 2022. They will be built only on the basis of gas turbines.

The new wording of the plan includes a set of measures to increase electricity consumption through 2025 and a list of investment projects to build peak-reserve power stations and install electric boilers.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using a Russian design featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. Rosatom’s engineering division is the general contractor.
