According to Vladimir Andreichenko, Belarus and Myanmar should cooperate more closely in agriculture. “Belarus sells food to over 50 countries. In 2014 alone we exported over $5 billion worth of food. We are interested in supplying more meat, dairy products, alcohol beverages, and other products to Myanmar,” remarked the MP. Belarus is ready to help Myanmar with getting more potash fertilizers and modern agricultural machines. Apart from that, the Belarusian side suggests setting up joint assembly enterprises to Myanmar.

“Belarus is ready to welcome your country’s ministers of industry, agriculture and healthcare for the sake of sharing experience and discussing future relations. Over 15,000 foreign students from 88 countries are educated in Belarusian universities at present and we are ready to welcome students from Myanmar, who will be able to get quality education here,” added Vladimir Andreichenko. Besides, Belarus is ready to step up interaction with Myanmar in the area of defense technologies.

Speaking about prospects of interparliamentary cooperation, Vladimir Andreichenko reminded that a working group on cooperation with the Myanmar parliament had been set up in the Belarus parliament. The MP said he hopes that a similar group will be set up in the Myanmar parliament in the future. “Belarusian MPs intend to continue building relations with Myanmar,” he assured.

Vladimir Andreichenko said he believes that the visit would open a new page in interparliamentary relations between Belarus and Myanmar and would determine new promising branches of cooperation. “Unfortunately, Belarus-Myanmar relations, primarily relations in the trade and economic sphere, are below our potential. We are ready to welcome any initiatives of Myanmar and provide assistance for the sake of advancing our cooperation to a higher level,” said the head of the lower chamber of the Belarus parliament. He suggested choosing 3-4 key projects for advancing cooperation.

In turn, Khin Aung Myint thanked the Belarusian side for the warm welcome and confirmed Myanmar’s readiness to bolster the bilateral relations.

The Myanmar parliament delegation is in Belarus on a visit on 21-24 May. Work on organizing a visit of Shwe Mann, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Assembly of the Union of Myanmar, to Belarus is in progress.
