Belarus ready to help address global food security issues

MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva Larisa Belskaya addressed the 69th session of the UNCTAD Trade and Development Council on 22 June, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian diplomat mentioned the unilateral coercive measures that undermine the fulfillment of UNCTAD's mandate, threaten the sustainable economic development of member states and block mutually beneficial international trade.

The permanent representative reaffirmed Belarus' readiness to cooperate constructively with the UN, UNCTAD and all interested governments to address pressing global food security issues, including those related to the transit of Ukrainian grain to world markets. This approach was voiced by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in his conversation with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres earlier this month.

According to Larisa Belskaya, Belarus will support UNCTAD's efforts in strengthening the national capacities of middle-income countries in trade and development, promoting global and interregional partnerships for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
