Belarus prime minister, Rosatom head discuss nuclear power plant construction

MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) – Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Rumas and Director General of the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom Aleksei Likhachev discussed progress in building the Belarusian nuclear power plant in the Seat of Government on 11 May, BelTA has learned.

The current state of affairs at the construction site was discussed as well as the remaining amount of work to build the nuclear power plant.

Attention was also paid to the organization of further interaction of the sides in the course of startup and commissioning of the nuclear power plant as well as industrial test operation.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using a Russian design featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
