Belarus, Poland to hold forums of regions every year

MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) – Belarusian and Polish parliamentarians sincerely discuss all the problems in cooperation between the two countries. Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich made the statement on 5 December as he summed up the first results of the visit of the Polish parliament delegation led by Marshal of the Senate of Poland Stanislaw Karczewski to Belarus, BelTA has learned.

Mikhail Myasnikovich said: “We were sincere. We discussed the issues that exist in our cooperation. We brought our views closer in many aspects. We were able to find mutually beneficial solutions. The most important thing is that we’ve agreed to maintain regular contacts. We have no topics we’d rather not discuss.”

Stanislaw Karczewski stressed that his visit indicated that Belarus and Poland have a great potential for cooperation in various areas. The sides agreed to hold forums of regions every year. Belarus and Poland will take turns hosting the economic forum.

The delegation of the Polish parliament attended the session of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus on 5 December. The session tabled the ratification of the Belarusian-Polish agreement on cooperation in education. The Belarusian senators voted in favor of ratifying the document. Presenting the document before the senators, Belarusian Education Minister Mikhail Zhuravkov noted that the document will contribute to the development of direct contacts between education institutions and to the exchange programs for students, post-graduate students and professors. The agreement provides for organizing career enhancement courses for pedagogical workers in the area of Belarusian and Polish philology as well as their participation in joint educational events.

Every year the countries will be able to send ten students, post-graduate students to the other country for five months for education purposes. Every year on parity terms Belarusian and Polish universities will be able to admit up to 20 students from national minorities. As far as pedagogical workers are concerned, each country is ready to welcome for internship purposes 12 people every year for a period of one month.

Addressing members of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament, the Marshal of the Senate of Poland mentioned the agreement they had ratified was important for further advancement of the bilateral relations and further buildup of mutual trust between Belarus and Poland.
