Belarus plans to export $8.5bn worth of agricultural products in 2023

MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) - Belarus plans to export at least $8.5 billion worth of agricultural products in 2023, Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Igor Brylo told the media during the outcome meeting of the collegium of the ministry on 24 February, BelTA has learned.

“Export of food products and agricultural raw materials increased by 24.2% to $8.3 billion in 2022, up $1.6 billion. Foreign trade surplus made up $3.4 billion, up $1.3 billion or 59% from 2021. Food products and agricultural raw materials amounted to 22% of Belarus’ total exports. In 2023, we plan to export at least $8.5 billion worth of agricultural products, and we will do our best to exceed the level,” said Igor Brylo.

According to the minister, a record high harvest in 2022 was in crop production. The production of milk and poultry increased, which contributed to record high export earnings. “The production of large volumes of milk and meat played a significant role here. Prices also increased in the market of the Russian Federation and other countries,” the minister added. According to him, Belarus sold food to 100 countries.

“Every year we enter seven to eight new markets. Now we pay much attention to the Chinese market, in particular, to the export of sausages, ham, poultry and beef. We plan to continue our negotiations to expand the range of supplies,” Igor Brylo said.
