MINSK, 14 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ pharmaceutical exports has increased by 1.8 times for the past five years, Sergei Kazakevich, Director General of the Management Company of the Belpharmprom Pharmaceutical Holding Company, said at the roundtable "Belarus’ pharmaceutical industry: Meeting the needs of healthcare and population" at BelTA’s press center.

“The work to increase exports has been continuous. Over the past five years, exports have increased by about 1.8 times. By the end of 2019, companies affiliated with Belpharmprom exported products worth about $160 million,” Sergei Kazakevich said.

This year, the exports of the pharmaceutical industry have reduced as in any other industry, due to objective reasons. "The logistics was difficult. Some of the products made for foreign markets were supplied for our healthcare as there was such a need. Of course, we have to adjust our plans this year. Nevertheless we expect that our exports in 2020 will be at the level of last year. Our losses will be next to nothing or very very small,” Sergei Kazakevich noted.

Sergei Kazakevich also noted that export is important for the pharmaceutical industry as the Belarusian market is not big enough for it to develop effectively and implement further plans.

In January-July of this year, Belpharmprom's pharmaceutical exports amounted to $82.6 million. The surplus was $5.3 million.

Belpharmprom's companies account for about 80% of all exports of domestic medicines.

In 2020, Belpharmprom exported drugs and medicines to 34 countries.

The roundtable was dedicated to the Day of Pharmaceutical and Microbiological Industry Workers of Belarus, which is marked on 15 October.
