MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) –  The Belarusian nuclear power plant has generated 40 billion kWh of electricity since the first unit was connected to the grid, the press service of the Energy Ministry told BelTA.

This allowed replacing more than 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas, saving foreign currency for the country, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 14 million tonnes.

The plant meets about 40% of the country's electricity needs and makes a significant contribution to ensuring Belarus' energy security.

In 2024 the Belarusian NPP generated 15.7 billion kWh of electricity, up by a third over 2023.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant uses the Russian design AES-2006 featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. It is an evolutionary nuclear power plant design with third-generation water-moderated reactors. Such designs boast improved technical and economic parameters.
