Belarus negotiating to start making other Russian COVID-19 vaccines

MOSCOW, 13 December (BelTA) – Sputnik V vaccine production will be fully localized in Belarus next year. Negotiations are in progress with manufacturers of other Russian vaccines on organizing their production at Belarusian enterprises. Belarusian Healthcare Minister Dmitry Pinevich made the relevant statements during a joint collegium of the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry and the Russian one in Moscow on 13 December, BelTA has learned.

Dmitry Pinevich said: “We bottle the Sputnik V vaccine together with Russian companies. We will fully localize Sputnik V production next year. I don’t want to go into details but during a break we had a number of negotiations with developers of other vaccines, who would like to localize or jointly develop various vaccine products.” He clarified he was referring to Russian vaccines.

The Belarusian healthcare minister added: “We have complete understanding in this regard. Second, we have a common base of fundamental scientific studies. Third, we have experience. Even vaccine bottling already means technology transfer, which has to go through rigorous preliminary stages. All of them have been passed successfully.”

The joint collegium took place in Moscow on 13 December. Russian Healthcare Minister Mikhail Murashko and his Belarusian counterpart Dmitry Pinevich, State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Dmitry Mezentsev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Vladimir Semashko took part in it. The main topic on the agenda is medical aid quality control system improvement.
