Belarus, Moldova to step up mutual trade with help of joint companies

CHISINAU, 5 February (BelTA) – Belarus and Moldova are in favor of stepping up mutual trade through setting up more joint companies, counselor on trade and economic issues at the Embassy of Belarus in Moldova Andrei Korol and Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova Vladimir Didilica said at the business forum Moldova-Belarus which was organized as part of the national exhibition Made in Moldova, BelTA informs.

According to Andrei Korol, the economies of Belarus and Moldova are mutually complementary. Belarus produces mainly industrial and technical goods at a time when Moldova supplies agricultural products. He stressed that Moldavian companies need to make more efforts to advance their agricultural produce. For this Belarus offers its logistic centers. The parties stressed the need to expand cooperation in various areas taking into account the fact that the trade between the two countries declined last year.

Vladimir Didilica noted that Belarus is Moldova’s traditional partner, and the countries need to reach new figures in mutual trade, which is possible only in mutual trust and interest.

Andrei Korol voiced Belarus’ proposal to modernize dairy production in Moldova, take part in the replacement of lifts and energy efficiency projects.

Head of the foreign economic cooperation department of the Minsk Office of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yelena Azarova said that Belarus values long-term cooperation between the chambers of commerce of the two countries. In her words, the exhibition Made in Moldova is a good opportunity to get familiar with the country’s potential. “Meetings with Moldavian companies took place as part of the exposition. The parties outlined ways for establishing new cooperation forms,” said Yelena Azarova.

The forum featured nine Belarusian companies representing a wide production range: from flour milling products to optical mechanics.
