MINSK, 20 February (BelTA) – Belarus looks forward to receiving two tankers full of oil that will be transshipped in Lithuania, the press service of the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim told BelTA.

“We can confirm information about the tankers. Details will be revealed later,” the source noted.

Previously the news agency BNS quoted Lithuanian Railways as saying that two shipments of oil for Belarus will be delivered to Klaipeda in March. Two tankers will deliver 85,000 tonnes of oil each.

Belarus received 86,000 tonnes of Norwegian oil of the Johan Sverdup variety in January via the Klaipeda port. The oil was earmarked for processing at the Belarusian oil refinery Naftan. The oil variety has been extracted in commercial amounts off the coast of Norway since Q4 2019.

Naftan Director General Aleksandr Demidov noted that future acquisitions of oil of the Johan Sverdup brand will depend on results of refining of the first lot. “In our opinion, it is not bad. The fact that crude oil is acquired without brokers, directly from one of the companies taking part in the project to extract oil at the Norwegian shelf is also important. Besides, we have established good relations with the supplier,” the executive said.
