Belarus, Kyrgyzstan discuss prospects for economic cooperation

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Kyrgyz Republic, Andrei Strachko met with Kyrgyzstan Minister of Foreign Affairs Ruslan Kazakbayev. The meeting took place at the initiative of the Kyrgyz side, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The parties exchanged views on the state of relations between Belarus and Kyrgyzstan, emphasizing their consistently friendly nature,” the press service noted.

The parties also reviewed the prospects for building up trade and economic cooperation and other promising avenues of Belarus-Kyrgyzstan interaction.

In 2019, the trade between the two countries amounted to $106.9 million, down by 18.5% over 2018. Exports totaled $98.6 million, down by 18.2%, imports - $8.3 million, a decrease of 22%. Belarus had a surplus of $90.3 million. Belarus' major exports were dairy products, tractors and truck tractors, meat and chicken by-products, pharmaceuticals, furniture and chipboard.

Kyrgyzstan exported truck and tractor spare parts, heaters, cotton uncombed fiber, onion, garlic, melons, watermelons, dried legumes, shoes made of natural leather.

In January-September of this year, Belarus increased food export to Kyrgyzstan. The export of cheese and cottage cheese rose by 8.5 times, that of sausages - 2.5 times, canned meat - 1.4 times, sauces - 6 times. In general, food exports amounted to $20 million, which was up by 2.7 times as against January-September 2019.
