ASTANA, 5 November (BelTA) - Belarus and Kazakhstan are eager to increase trade turnover to $2 billion by 2030, Belarusian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kazakhstan Aleksei Bogdanov told the media in Astana on 5 November. BelTA has learned.

A Belarusian government delegation led by Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin is on an official visit in Kazakhstan on 4-5 November. A meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan took place on 4 November. “The meeting focused on strategic cooperation between our countries. We are brotherly nations, and our two economies are deeply interconnected,” Ambassador Aleksei Bogdanov said.

Industrial collaboration gets a special attention during the official visit. “A nuclear power plant is under construction in Kazakhstan, and we are ready to share our expertise. Especially since many companies involved in building the nuclear power plant in Belarus can participate in the project here as well. We can supply metal and certified goods here, which could be very helpful,” the Ambassador noted.

Today, Aleksandr Turchin held talks with Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov. The Belarusian-Kazakh Business Council has convened for a meeting. “Approximately one hundred companies from Belarus and Kazakhstan are involved. The parties are planning to sign contracts to supply engineering products for 2026. This, of course, will contribute to our trade. We have been working in this market for a long time. Trade has been gaining momentum, up by over 15% in January-September. But the countries can achieve more. Our trade turnover slightly exceeds $1 billion. We aim for $1.5 billion within the next two years. By around 2030 we may even reach $2 billion. All these events contribute to us achieving this figure and help us strengthen the interaction both in traditional trade and cooperative projects,” the Belarusian diplomat emphasized.

The Belarusian company AMKODOR is signing an agreement today to build up ties with manufacturers from Kazakhstan. Plans are in place to assemble AMKODOR machinery locally. “This includes loaders and snow removal vehicles for use on Kazakhstan's roads. It's a promising field that we need to tap into. Furthermore, an agreement is being signed to develop the localization of MTZ vehicles. We have two major assembly plants here, where we produce about 4,000-5,000 tractors in Kazakhstan and sell them locally. Therefore, according to the roadmap signed by the two industry ministries, it is necessary to enhance localization. We are exploring the possibility of placing orders here for the casting of some spare parts for our assembly plants,” the Ambassador informed.

One of the important topics for discussion is interregional cooperation. “We agreed to dedicate the next two years to regional cooperation, with the aim of increasing mutual visits between our regions and holding various business forums at the regional level. This will contribute to the development of our trade, economic relations, and cultural ties. Conducting business is difficult without cultural interaction. It is precisely regional cooperation that we see potential that can be developed and translated into tangible figures,” Ambassador Aleksei Bogdanov noted.
