Belarus, Kaluga Oblast to expand cooperation in industry, agriculture, education

MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) – Belarus and Kaluga Oblast, the Russian Federation plan to expand cooperation in industry, agriculture and education, BelTA learnt from the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus.

Summing up the results of the visit to Kaluga Oblast, Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee Alexander Shumilin noted that the parties are in talks to set up a plant to assemble Belarusian tractors at the vacant spaces of the industrial companies and industrial parks of Kaluga Oblast, the free economic zone Lyudinovo.

The parties are also discussing the possibility to supply MAZ passenger vehicles, including vehicles with gas engines, to the Russian region. “The vehicles produced in Minsk are equipped with gas tanks of the Russian manufacture that are especially designed for the Russian market,” the committee stressed.

According to specialists, the parties are mutually interested in developing cooperation in the agro-industrial complex and road construction. “Cooperation is also possible in the production of automobile tyres. Belarusian specialists will consider the possibility to organize the supplies of cord and industrial textile,” they added.

It is expected that regional contacts will get a new impetus as well. Thus, the Brest Sci-Tech Park seeks close cooperation with the Kaluga Oblast industrial parks – Rosva and Grabtsevo.

The two sides also plan to expand interuniversity cooperation. “There are agreements on student and information exchanges in the areas of mutual interest,” the press service said.

The Belarusian delegation led by Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus Alexander Shumilin paid a visit to Kaluga Oblast of Russia on 12-13 August. The program of the visit included the discussion of the progress made in the implementation of the action plan on cooperation development between Kaluga Oblast and Belarus for 2014-2016, the visit to the ITC Cluster, technological parks and other enterprises.
