Belarus invites Japan to more actively explore economic cooperation opportunities

MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) – Belarus invites Japan to more actively explore economic cooperation opportunities. First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vasily Matyushevsky made the statement as he met with Ambassador of Japan to Russia with concurrent accreditation to Belarus Toyohisa Kozuki on 6 June, BelTA has learned.

Vasily Matyushevsky mentioned positive dynamics of development of Belarusian-Japanese relations. “It is now time to more actively tap into the considerable potential of bilateral cooperation in economic affairs. It suits interests of both Belarus and Japan,” said the First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus.

The official pointed out that with its modern industrial base, highly productive and competitive agriculture the Belarusian economy plays quite a substantial role in the post-Soviet space. Apart from that, Belarus traditionally boasts high education standards, advanced science and information technologies. “We would very much like Belarus to become a worthy and reliable partner of Japan in the Eastern Europe region,” said Vasily Matyushevsky.

Belarus is interested in advancing long-term relations with Japanese corporations. A number of economic preferences can be offered to potential investors. “We can effectively work together in a number of areas relating to laser technologies, research equipment, radiation registration equipment,” believes First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vasily Matyushevsky.

Belarus can become a platform for developing a series of joint projects, including using advanced Japanese technologies. Besides, Belarus is part of the Eurasian Economic Union. By working with Belarus, Japan may open a market with virtually 180 million people.

Vasily Matyushevsky said he believes the meeting should start a number of serious economic initiatives.

In turn, Toyohisa Kozuki thanked the Belarusian side for the warm welcome and expressed readiness for cooperation in various spheres.
